The 1st step in our campaign plan for collective bargaining was to complete a community citizen survey. Vladimir Jones (our conusultant and previously PRACO) assisted Local 5 with the selection of Penn, Schoen and Berland Associates to create and complete the survey for our campaign. All members may view the survey by logging in and visiting the Politcal Action section of the website and viewing the document "Collective Bargaining Survey Questions". If you should have any questions please contact Bill Hirni or JJ Halsey.

This day is set up for all corporate sponsers and other firefighters that would like to come up and visit and see what camp is all about, it's also a great day to come up and visit the counselors that have been up at camp all week! So if you have a chance, come on up and visit other wise photos will be available soon! This is a great way to see just where some of the "Fill the Boot" money goes that is collected throughout the year by you!

On May 23, 24 and 25th, members of the Colorado Springs Professional Firefighters, Local 5, were stranded on top of the Promenade Shops of Briargate with the hopes of being rescued by a 75'ft ladder which was only extended 1ft for every $100 raised. Due to the generosity of the citizens of Colorado Springs and after a long, but productive 51 hours, the $7500 goal for which all proceeds are given directly to MDA, had been met!!! Thanks to all the businesses and citizens that made this event possible and a special thanks to the Promenade Shops at Briargate and their respective business owners that donated food, snacks and drinks that kept the Firefighters going all weekend!
There have been several reports of individuals having petitions to be signed outside of grocery stores. These people have been claiming that they are protecting your paycheck from the government. Actually they are trying to get PAYCHECK DECEPTIONlegislation on the ballot.
If this measure is passed it will destroy labor unions making it impossible to fight for your wages, benefits, and safety! DO NOT SIGN THESE PETITIONS!!!Report any instance where the petitioner says its for anything BUT making it illegal to deduct union dues from your paycheck!

After the 2 Special Membership meetings held over the past 2 nights, the anonymous vote came out with a vote of 96% in favor of going ahead with the campaign. Thank you to all of those members that took the time to consider the facts and cast their vote. IAFF Local 5 will move forward with the begining stages of the campaign and we will keep all members up to date regarding the progress and upcoming ways that members can assist. The special assessment of $15.00 per paycheck will start with the 2nd pay period in May. If you have any questions please contact any Executive Board or PAC Committee Member.
As many of you know, our fellow firefighter Jason Buckingham was subject to a terrible house fire. All members of his family are safe and they are currently living in another home across the street until their new home that is under construction is finished. Many folks and organizations including Local 5 have already made monetary donations for Jason and his family. If you would like to donate cash or gift cards, you can make this donation at the front desk at the Fire Dept Headquarters, Station 17 or at the Local 5 offfice.
On April 30th, Baskin-Robbins® wants to honor America’s firefighters. From 5pm to 10pm, the Colorado Springs Baskin Robbins stores will reduce prices of small ice cream scoops to 31 cents. In honor of the firefighters a donation of $100,000 will be made by Baskin-Robbins® to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Members of IAFF Local 5 will be on hand at each store, to say "Thank You" and donations to the Colorado Springs Professional Firefighters Local 5 will be accepted.
On April 22nd, the Colorado Springs Professional Firefighters Local #5 and the Security Fire Department staged apparatus and personnel at the Tiffany Square Shopping center to collect money for the fallen firefighters that died fighting the Fort Carson Fire and the Ordway fire. With the undying support from the companies and citizens of Colorado Springs, the firefighters were able to raise approx $15,200.00 in 6 hours with money continuing to be dropped off throughout the afternoon. The money will be equally split and delivered to each of the three families within the next week.
Thank you to all those that supported this worthy cause!
