My first visit was in 2005 in remembrance of Capt Grady Burke and Nito Guajardo. I had worked for Baytown FD for 3 years before I made the move to Houston Fire department in March 2004. December 2004 Nito passed in a house fire. My first assignment out of the HFD academy was to Fire Station 46 on the B shift working under Capt Grady Burke, Sr Capt Whitehead and District Chief Bisbano. Feb 2005, Capt Grady Burke lost his life in a house fire. I had never experienced such loss. Unexplainable emotion, fear and sorrow almost ended my fire fighting career. The memorial gave closure and peace. I wasnt leaving the fire service. We were coming back to the memorial but next time it was going to be more of a "vacation", so we thought! This year we are hear not just in remembrance of all of our brothers and sisters on the wall. My brother Mike Mays and a good friend of mine Randy Surratt were added, both had passed due to Cancer. I cant say thank you enough! Local 5 and the CSFD did an awesome job taking care of my family. You guy's did it right! My brother and my friend were honored in every since of the word.
